After field-testing samples and deciding on the the finished frame fit and lens tech, our manufacturing begins in Mauritius with a production team we trust and have worked closely with throughout development. Below is a look inside that process, from raw material to finished pair.
Our frames are produced with Plastinax in Mauritius, a manufacturer with decades of experience making high-performance sports eyewear.
Their team works across precision injection molding, frame finishing, assembly and quality control, and has helped us develop our frame materials into finished eyewear.
They play a major role in the quality of every pair we make, so we want you to know who they are and see how the work gets done.
The Process
Every pair starts with the material.
For our recycled frames, we currently use NYLOr from Fil & Fab, made from discarded fishing nets recovered from the Mediterranean and recycled into a high-performance nylon material.
For other styles, we use 58% bio-based Grilamid TR.
Both materials are selected with durability on the water in mind, while helping us reduce our reliance on conventional virgin plastics.
The selected material is heated and injected into our Marble frame molds.
Each machine is calibrated for the specific frame and material being produced, forming the fronts and temples that will become a finished pair of Marbles.
Once injected, the frame components are placed into tumbling barrels for a minimum of 24 hours...
Wet stones help smooth rough edges and small imperfections left from molding, preparing the frames for the next stages of our production.
The fronts and temples are brought together, assembled and any imperfections after tumbling are marked and fixed by hand.
This is where the individual molded components start to become a finished frame before moving into decoration and final detailing.
Depending on the style, color treatments, paint and surface finishes are applied to the frame.
This is where the final look and feel of each pair of Marbles starts to come together.
Logos and final frame markings are added as the frames move through finishing.
Small details are checked and completed before the lenses are installed.
Our polarized ZEISS lenses are cut and edged to fit each Marble frame .
Once finished, the lenses are mounted into the frames and checked for proper fit.
Each pair moves through Plastinax’s quality control process before packing.
Frames are inspected throughout production, with the finished pair checked before it leaves the factory.
Finished Marbles are packed into our tubes and prepared for shipment.
From Mauritius, they make their way to our warehouse, fly shops and anglers around the world.
There is a lot more behind a pair of Marbles than the finished frame you pull out of your tube.
